The Somerton Police Department is authorized for 25 sworn police officers, 15 of which are assigned to the Patrol Division. Beginning in August of 2017, officers assigned to the Patrol Division will be assigned to 12-hour shifts with rotating days on and off, and rotating shift assignments bi-monthly. The new 12-hour shift assignments are designed to provide for the maximum amount of police officers patrolling the city streets in an effort to provide our community with timely and exceptional service. The Patrol Division officers are supervised and managed by the Patrol Division Captain, who oversees all patrol operations, our Reserve Officers and the Police Explorer Post. Additionally, two Sergeants assigned to separate shifts serve as first line supervisors to assist, guide and mentor our police officers.
All personnel assigned to the Patrol Division are responsible for handling calls for service, protecting life and property and preserving the peace in and around the City of Somerton.
